Most movie-goers were first introduced to the highly intelligent and charismatic serial killer Dr. Hannibal Lecter, famously played by Anthony Hopkins, in the movie The Silence of the Lambs (1991). The movie is based on the book by the same name, written by Thomas Harris in 1981.
