Go On, Pete Davidson, Give Us Nothing!

We’re living in a godless world and there is no respite in sight.

Once again, Pete Davidson is trending on Twitter, this time for a viral listicle rounding up a bunch of Reddit comments responding to one user’s completely valid question: “People who are attracted to Pete Davidson, why?”

Honestly, the answers are kind of shady.

“He’s not a supermodel or anything, but I don’t find him bad-looking at all,” one comment reads, followed by another backhanded compliment: “I’m bisexual. I like 1) all women and 2) men who look like wet cigarettes.”

Okay?

I’m not here to debate Davidson’s looks; I refuse to go down that dark, dank rabbit hole.

What’s more noteworthy is the fact that Davidson has managed to hold the world’s attention for such a long, interrupted period of time — and for doing basically nothing.

Ever since rumors of his relationship with Kim Kardashian broke in late October (Pete Davidson SKIMS campaign when?), the comedian has remained the Main Character of all my online newsfeeds.

Remember that whole BDE thing, circa 2018? The buzz that Davidson’s genitalia generated pales in comparison to the amount of press he’s gotten in the last two months.

But what, exactly, is so interesting about him?

We get it, he’s managed to date several of Hollywood’s most successful women. And he’s funny (?).

But aside from that, why are we so obsessed with someone who seems to be doing the least?

The fervor surrounding the Saturday Night Live cast member started out innocently enough. Sure, his relationship with Ariana Grande was kind of cute. And yes, I respect his honestly regarding mental illness.

But ever since he split with Grande and started serial dating, it seems interest in Davidson snowballed into a kind of joke, which, somewhere along the way, morphed into earnest, full-fledged obsession with the comedian.

Pretty good, for a guy who’s built his public persona on being an affable underachiever who smokes a lot of weed.

I can’t get behind the internet’s incessant Pete thirst, but I will admit — he’s spawned a ton of great jokes.
