The Regrettes – Monday

Sounds like:
Olivia Rodrigo, Beabadoobee, Weezer

What’s so good?

The Regrettes are a four-piece band from LA whose recent single “Monday” affirms their genre evolution from their punk rock debut, Feel Your Feelings Fool!, to their softer, sophomore record How Do You Love? that is slightly more pop. This shift was concisely categorized in a blog post by Up All Afternoon, Kyle Anderson states:There’s a trend from the ‘90s that my old buddy Zack used to describe as the “hard jangle,” which describes the sound of a certain type of alternative-adjacent pop band. Though many of these bands had punk roots and shambolic histories, they bent their sound toward cascading melodies and a cleanliness in their guitar sound with just the right amount of crunch.Their new track “Monday” fits comfortably into the notion of ‘hard jangle’ with a skillfully executed, easily digested rock-influenced pop song. The song’s music video certainly adds a layer of meaning to the track, focusing on the lyrics which cover anxiety and insecurity.
