Modest Mouse putting a smile on my face just like old times. If, like me, you grew up listening to these guys, you’ll find that “The Sun Hasn’t Left” is just as cheerful and uplifting as classics such as “Float On.”Their seventh studio release and first album in six years, The Golden Casket, dropped this week and follows 2015’s Strangers to Ourselves. Its release comes just in time for the 20th anniversary of their seminal The Moon and Antarctica. According to an official release, the new record reflects:“…the liminal space between raw punk power and experimental studio science. The twelve tracks behave like amorphous organisms, undergoing dramatic mutations and mood swings that speak to the chronic tug-of-war between hope and despair that plays out in frontman [Isaac] Brock’s head.”As if the name hadn’t given it away, “The Sun Hasn’t Left” rests firmly within the upswing of Brock’s emotional pendulum.
