What’s so good?

I imagine that a lot of outlets are picking up Moise’s “Cellphone Receiver.” It’s got that perfect blend of all things modern-indie. The bass is licked with blues and funk and is perfectly punctuated by r&b-meets-surf-rock guitar. The vocal layers play amongst themselves and give the chorus some bounce. In between, the heartfelt, honeyed vocals on the verses give weight to the track that allows us a glimpse into the soul of the singer — dusted in days long gone.The lyrics are incredibly poetic, the meaning of which is heart-wrenching. Speaking to the track, Moise explains:”It deals with having to break up with someone due to you not being able to fix them. In this story, the lady I’m writing about is having a hard time staying clean from drugs and is feeling depressed. I try everything possible to support her and make her feel like there’s more to life once you are able to get out of this dark state. Life isn’t easy but having people around you to give you a call and check up on you makes a difference.”With Amy Winehouse as his inspiration, he continues:”With my music, I try to be just as honest and touch on subjects that really need a spotlight.””Cellphone Receiver” comes off his forthcoming full-length album, We Survived the Storm, which will be released in May 2022, so keep his number on speed dial.
