What’s so good?

Video Killed the Retro StarA 7-Minute music video short film with a retro 90’s aesthetic, deep thematic undertones, and a whaling chillwave soundtrack – I’m fangirling.I love the new rebirth of the 90’s retro look and sound within media and while it has always been around in music videos or conceptual chillwave and synthpop bands – I have always thought that somehow, somewhere there was a connection to the modern-day youth that was missing.”Marin’s Dream” is for the most part exactly what you’d expect – a dreamy, poppy, and heavily synthed, extravagant sound, but should you look deeper, explore the media, the lore, and the created story behind the track and you’ll dip into a world of new-youth themes of queer sensibilities, parental misguidance and the idea of being unique within a society attempting to systematically delete that.A rich undertone of “this is for the young people” is engrained within the sounds and sights of this Beach House and Meow Wolf collaboration which isn’t just important, but needed. The retro sound created here isn’t just fresh and nuanced, but it’s also extremely accessible and exquisitely crafted.I’d be bonkers if I didn’t suggest this song to anyone close to me, to only for what it reminds us about, but also for its beautiful way of making us know what we can be, beyond this new world of ours.
