George Orwell’s 1984 – Illustrated by Paul Charfe.

This volume has the unabridged original text of part one of the novel. Part two and three are currently being worked on. My initial idea was to complete the book in one volume, however, I realised that for this to be the case I would have to chose between less art or an abridged version of the text- and who am I to mess around with one of the most celebrated novels ever. Below are some example pages.

George Orwell’s “1984” is a timeless masterpiece that has captured the imagination of readers around the world for over seven decades. In this dystopian novel, Orwell creates a terrifying future world where the government has complete control over every aspect of citizens’ lives. With themes of government surveillance, propaganda, and the loss of individuality, “1984” continues to resonate with readers today, reminding us of the importance of freedom and the dangers of totalitarianism.

Whether you are already familiar with, or new to this iconic novel, you won’t want to miss Volume One of the new illustrated edition! The stunning illustrations are powerful and evocative, capturing the drab and oppressive environment of life in Oceania.

Volume One is over 150 pages with 86 illustrated pages so readers can experience both the words and the images together and enter a truly immersive reading experience that will stay with you long after you’ve turned the final page.

 – The Illustrator –

“I have been drawing as long as I can remember. And I have been reading graphic novels almost as long. But, until recently, I had never thought I might be able to bring these two passions together and build a career around them. A life like that, being fortunate enough to work at what you love seemed like one reserved for other people. For a start, I have never considered myself a writer, and so where would I find a story to work on? I made a number of starts on storylines I scripted myself but, whilst I would enjoy doing the artwork, I would soon lose faith in the stories themselves. Then it hit me! I could illustrate classic novels! Not in the old fashioned way, with an illustration every 20 pages, but something more like a graphic novel. Now, I just needed to find the right one…

I first read 1984 in my early twenties and was so impressed I immediately shared it with a friend. He wasn’t a fan of Orwell’s direct style and gave me something much more poetic. I have since forgotten what the book with beautiful prose was but the imagery and ideas in Orwell’s brutal tale has always stayed with me. Reading it again 25 years later I felt compelled to do something with it. Here it is.”
