Raf Simons just previewed his next collection with adidas Originals at Paris Fashion Week with the unveiling of the Stan Smith “Tromp-l’oeil” Collection. French for “deceive the eye” Tromp-l’oeil gives a 3D realism to 2D surfaces through the use of perspective.
What Raf Simons did with this collection is take iconic adidas silhouettes and created an optical illusion in order to access and repurpose them. Simons took the Micropacer, LA Trainer, and the Torsion Conquest Super, photographed and 3D modeled them to fit the Raf Simons Stan Smith. The final product is seen above as each shoe has essentially been mixed into the Stan Smith and as a result given a new look, but at the same time keeping essential attributes.
