With her literary debut now making the rounds of young readers everywhere, Donn T. has treated her accompanying score to a new video piece.

HEAR: Donn T Puts a Sound to New YA Series, Shares “Clear” ft. Chill Moody (prod. Daru Jones and Ray Angry)

Centering on the hands of Dutch visual artist Fleur Ouwerkerk as she layers strokes over sketches of the singer and fellow Philly musician, Chill Moody. The easy, spacious soul suite (produced by The RootsRay Angry and drummer Daru Jones) was released as a companion to her new YA anthology, Behind The Song, which finds Donn collecting the stories of local artists and their favorite tunes. “Clear” and Time To Soar, the short story written for the book, are dedicated to and inspired by the late Amy Winehouse and her 2003 purple funk special “October Song,” itself an ode to the singer’s pet canary. This week sees the release of Drumsound & Bassline Smith’s third album Wardance and, until recently, no one saw it coming. Not even Drumsound & Bassline Smith themselves.

Work began in earnest on the LP as recently as May as the Derby-based trio realised they had a body of work developing that was partly inspired by drum & bass’s current no-rules status and jungle and jump up renaissances but also inspired by that initial fire-fused creative spark they bonded over almost 20 years ago. Directed by Calmatic (visionary behind Smino and T-Pain’s nostalgically vibrant video for the “Anita” remix,) the suite comes to life with a bit of lo-fi grit and plenty of pastel flourishes.
