“I feel that there’s a lot of skirting around it, like it’s about the culture, but I’m always, like, no—it’s about economies,” Lucia Hierro told us in her feature this past Summer. “That’s really what it’s about: The way we live our lives in this sea of uncertainty and debt, where we continue to talk about our individual identities, when, in fact, these larger systems and structures are talked about theoretically—but never in terms of their direct impact on us, or the fact that so much of our culture is manufactured and branded.”

Halloween is coming soon, it’s that spooky time of the year. Unfortunately enough, from where I am currently living right now, we don’t have this ‘celebration’ per se. But it doesn’t mean we can’t share about them! Let me share this eerie and abstract illustration series by Mattias Lindström, an artist and illustrator from Barcelona, Spain. His series is a new direction of experiments that Mattias wanted to explore, more particularly animations. This project really caught my attention because of its visual and abstract combination of colors and fluidity. Titled ‘Cosmic Wet Dream’, we follow the work of Ross McCampbell, a Portland-based animator, designer, and illustrator. This was a collaboration with the team over Buck Design. We are featuring a series of related ‘styleframes’ that would be part of a bigger animation, looking forward to seeing those hopefully soon. Continue reading
